How to organise a home right after moving

So are you moving into your new home and you do not know where to start and how to start organising your home? Here is a guide for you, on how to organise your home right after moving in.

Organising starts before the move!

This is part of the process, organising starts before the moving. Declutter before packing and leave the unnecessary items which are not going to serve you in your new home. Decluttering will help you to reduce the amount of time you put into setting up your new home. Pack according to the rooms, make boxes, and use labels, pack accordingly. It will be easier if you have box names assigned to particular rooms or even better if you specify it even more, for instance, a box full of the items which will go on the bedside table and bedroom study table and then label it. It would make it so much easier to arrange and put the items in the right room and right place.

Deep cleaning

If you want your place to look organised and clean make sure that your place is crystal clear and sparkling clean. Right after moving remember that it is easier to clean an empty space than a space which has furniture and other items on the floor. Clean before opening any of the boxes. Clean the floors, fans, ceilings, windows, doors, anything that can be cleaned. Maybe even use the spray which will keep away the cockroaches and other pests out of your way. Give yourself all the time to deep clean each and every room.

Put boxes in the right room

Now you can go ahead and open your first box but that first box is going to be your essentials box, which would contain everything you require right away like the toiletries and other essentials. Now put all the labelled boxes in the rooms assigned to them.

Furniture and rugs before unpacking

Next step, Lay out the rugs, carpets and anything which will go on the floor. Lay out the furniture, like in the bedroom, and living room. Laying out the furniture is important, it will help us understand where the other items will go. Lay out the big furniture then the small furniture followed by potted plants.

Bedrooms

Since we are done with laying out the carpets and furniture. Now you can open up the boxes meant for the bedroom. We are doing the bedrooms first to make sure that you and your family can have a good night’s sleep from the first night you move into your new home so even if you can’t get done with organising your home in a day, you can still have a place to rest and sleep. If you have a kid’s bedroom, then first open up the boxes meant for the kid’s bedroom. Fill out all the cupboard spaces, organise the things meant for the closet space and when you need additional space under the bed storage is always an option.

Bathrooms

Now that you are done with the bedrooms, you can start with the bathrooms. If you are sharing a bathroom with your kids then make sure that every person in the family gets an equal amount of space for their belongings. Install hooks if required for hanging towels and bathrobes. Set up your bathroom in a way that doesn’t seem messy but at the same time, everything should fit and look organised. Make different sections for things which are used by all and things which are used rarely.

Kitchen

Now moving on to the kitchen, after setting up your bedrooms and bathrooms now is the time to organise your kitchen. Let’s divide the things into consumables, non-consumables, cleaning supplies, prep supplies and cooking supplies.

Consumables: This area is where you’ll store your food. The fridge, food cabinets and pantry is where you are going to store your food. Snacks, quick bites, food which can easily be eaten on the go.

Non-consumables: Dishware, glasses, silverware and cookware should be stored for easy access and could include cabinets, and drawers. Make separate sections for the utensils which are used often, not used often and used on a daily basis.

Cleaning area: This area includes the sink, dishwasher and storage for cleaning supplies, dish detergent, scrub pads and dishcloths. Under the sink storage is a good place to store cleaning supplies. Make sure that the cleaning supplies are limited and not kept in a manner which makes the kitchen look unattractive.

Prep area: Whether it’s a counter area or kitchen island, determine where you’ll be doing most of your prep for meals so that you can store the things you’ll need close by. Keep the things which are necessary for preparing your meal near the prep area. Positioning makes a difference in everyday life.

Cooking area: This area includes your stovetop, range, oven and microwave. You’ll want pots and pans stored close by for easy access. You’ll also need to decide the best place to store mixers, food processors and other countertop appliances out of the way. Again positioning is very important.

If you have younger children, be sure to install cabinet locks and for older kids, designate an area or cabinet where they can grab what they want.

The living area

Last but not least, make sure that a living area is a place where each one of the family members enjoys the time they spend there. Keep the living space clutter free but at the same time make it look cosy and comfortable. Keep in mind the needs of the family members for instance, keep the books for children in a reachable proximity so the children can easily reach them. Keep the living area easily maintainable and clean. Use furniture with storage units installed in them so you can get extra storage.

And taa-daa you have it! Your perfectly organised home.
