Whether you are a new homeowner or moving into a bigger (or smaller apartment), moving is always a major milestone in anyone’s life.

And though it comes with a lot of anticipation, it can also be stressful and daunting if not planned well.

To ensure you move to your new home hassle-free and smoothly, you’ll need to list out a few essentials before you shift.

At Get Lucky Removalists, we help homeowners with custom solutions like packaging and moving their office and home possessions easily. Keeping your moving needs in mind, we have compiled a list of the first things to buy for a new home!

Read on…

Kitchen

Often known as the heart of the home, the kitchen must be well-furnished and stacked with essential inventory items. You have probably accumulated plenty of things for your kitchen, including the ‘white goods,’ but the furnishing you require will depend on how modern or simple you wish to keep your kitchen. However, a few things you cannot make do without are: a dining table, microwave, rubbish bin, toaster, tea towels, and a drying rack.

While buying these, some tea bags and loaves of bread wouldn’t go amiss either! While you are out, get your hands on a few kitchen utensils like – cutlery, crockery, mugs, knives, pots, pans & spatulas, mixing bowls, and serving plates.

The above items will depend on the number of people in your house and the frequency of use of these items. Ensure you plan before you buy home furnishing and food items.

Living Room

Ideally, it’s best to have minimum furniture before you move in, as moving in with a lot of furniture beforehand can be a waste and may also prove costly later. And the living room is your home’s central area of relaxation and enjoyment; it should be well-furnished, welcoming, and spacious enough.

These essentials will help make your home more comfortable and inviting to guests and family members. Surge protectors, a small centre table, TV mounting hardware, a modem, and a router.

Bedroom

After an exhausting day of packing and moving, the box with essentials for the bedroom is something you will want to unpack first. Keep these essentials handy and if you don’t have them, ensure you buy these before or immediately after you have moved – an extra mattress, clean, dry sheets, a bedspread/ comforter, an alarm clock, and a bedside table (optional, depending on use)

Baths

Though the bathroom is small, it is important to have it stocked with necessary everyday items. Your bathroom necessities need to be added to the shelves as per everyone’s routine and preferences, so ensure you have all items neatly stored and easily accessible before or immediately after moving in. Some very important items include – toilet paper, hand soap, towels, a plunge, shampoo & conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes, a bath mat, and a highlight.

Now that you have all the essential everyday items ready to be used, let’s focus on a few items you need to keep at your house to avoid a last-minute rush to a store.

Tools

This is one aspect that homeowners often overlook. Everyday tools like hammers, nails, a spanner, screwdriver set, pliers, measuring tape, batteries, power drill, light bulbs, level, and duct tape can come in handy if you intend to hang your favourite painting or assemble that bookshelf or even your furniture. Great tools and a good pair of hands can fix anything, indeed! So, gather your toolbox beforehand, or you’ll run to the hardware store later!

Cleaning

Of course, if the home is new, it will be pristine, but that does not mean that moving is a clean job. Once you bring your old (or even new stuff) into your immaculate new home, you’ll need to maintain your home in top shape and keep it consistently clean. Keeping the following things at arm’s length is a good idea, including paper towels, garbage bags, all purpose cleaner, detergent, vacuum cleaner, mop, bucket, brooms, toilet bowl cleaner, and brushes and dishwashing detergent.

Lawn & Garden

The space outside your home is equally important and will require the same effort as maintaining the interiors. Grab these essentials to keep your indoors as beautiful and usable as indoors! A lawn mower, garden hose, shovel, rake, hedge trimmers, etc.

Exhausting, but you made it! Wasn’t that exciting?! If you plan well, moving into a new home will be just as smooth and enjoyable as you intend. And whether you’re moving local or interstate, Get Lucky Removalists are here to help you! Our services are efficient and hassle-free, and we’re one of Australia’s best removalists, especially furniture removalists.

How to prepare a piano for moving https://getluckyremovalists.com/how-to-prepare-a-piano-for-moving/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/how-to-prepare-a-piano-for-moving/#respond Mon, 16 Jan 2023 04:03:07 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=859 A piano holds great sentimental value as it can be a prized possession, a treasured family heirloom, or even your favourite hobby. Naturally, when moving the instrument from one place to another, you would require professional help as it can be hectic and may cause severe damage to the instrument if not packed properly.

Can you move a piano by yourself?

As the instrument is hefty and quite valuable, moving it can be a complex task; hence, getting professionals to help you out is always a good idea. It also depends on the size of your piano since moving a heavy item like that without the proper care could seriously damage it. Therefore, assessing your exact requirement and type is essential before choosing the right piano removalist.

Types of pianos

Uprights: Carrying it can be tricky as they carry all their weight in the top half, leaving less weight in their feet and legs, making the lower half very fragile. Moving this type is relatively easy with professional help if you have at least four people balancing the piano’s weight. You can also opt for equipment like a dolly for heavy furniture and moving blankets. Packing an upright piano is more manageable than shifting it, so always rely on some professional help.

Baby grand: Professional help will be required because moving this type will need experienced people who can lift weighty objects and oversized items. Before moving a bulky item, such as a baby grand piano, ensure you move it with the help of the right equipment, a blanket, and a skid board.

Grand: Since this is a prominent musical instrument, you’ll require a piano board or a piano skid. It must be moved safely with the help of the right strapping and padding (like bubble wrap) as it has many fragile parts. It would be best if you opted for professional movers as an average grand piano can weigh approximately 700 – 1200 pounds/ 400 – 500 kgs in weight.

Before the move

Knowing the musical instrument is crucial before moving it, so it is advisable to know all the parts of a piano before removing it. Begin with enquiring about what kind of professional piano moving experts; ask them all questions on your mind, the duration of the move, and if they need any particular directions to move the piano for you. Lastly, ensure you ask them to carry all necessary equipment and packing materials to be safe.

Furniture blankets: These are thick and durable blankets specially made to be strapped around the furniture while moving. This will ensure that the blankets provide enough cushioning around the object to avoid breakage.

Heavy-duty furniture dolly: You require a doll that can carry the piano. A skid board is explicitly needed for baby grand and grands. Choose the dolly as per the piano’s size, weight, and structure.

Furniture straps: To secure any items, straps are essential to moving anything safely. Make sure to use the straps in a way that avoids friction. Also, it should be double or triple-strapped to ensure it stays in place during transit.

Packing the piano

Ensure that the top lid of your piano is securely shut and that the cap covers the keys. You can even place a blanket within the essential lid to protect the keys. Keys are fragile and need to be protected. If you want to move a grand or a baby grand, it is better to lay it on its side and remove the legs carefully. Remember to wrap the legs in moving blankets.

For an upright one, you don’t need to remove the wheels from this type but keep in mind to never lay them on their side or back. Since your beloved family heirloom is going to get transported, wrap the entire instrument properly and cover it in pads. Use an ample amount of packing tape to wrap around the blankets. Once you feel that it is secure, go ahead and wrap it in plastic.

Plan and measure!

Plan before your move, or if you want to help the movers, plan a route and grab a measuring tape! First, measure the size of your piano and all its parts, and measure your hallways & doors. Plan a path from which your piano will be moving out and remove everything from the way, like furniture or other items, to avoid your piano from getting chipped or scratched.

You should consider this when moving your piano, know your piano type, plan, understand the materials required, pack and keep your home/office ready for the move, and measure the doors and the instrument. That’s why you can help the movers and packers to move your piano quickly and safely.

Ultimate guide: How to pack your kitchen when you move! https://getluckyremovalists.com/ultimate-guide-how-to-pack-your-kitchen-when-you-move/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/ultimate-guide-how-to-pack-your-kitchen-when-you-move/#respond Fri, 06 Jan 2023 11:14:25 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=845 When it comes to packing your kitchen, it takes more time than you expect, and sometimes we need clarification about what to fill first and where to start.

It can get even messier if you move in very few days and need to learn how to pack!

Here is our ultimate guide on packing your kitchen quickly and easily!

The Prep

Preparation is crucial so you can get everything right, no matter when you are packing, what you are packing, or how you are packing. Let us talk about how to prep efficiently.

The first step is always decluttering, so throw the things which are not required. There are a few items that we don’t use for the longest time and still are sitting somewhere in the corner, behind the shelves, and in the cabinet, so it’s finally time to get those unused utensils out and decide to throw them away or donate them. Keep things that are used daily and items that are used on special occasions. Separate by making categories. This will make it easier for you to pack them, so sort the pots, pans, saucers, cups, dishes, perishable items, etc.

Gathering supplies

We need boxes, a lot of them! After the prep, let’s gather the supplies you need to move your kitchen! You must complete this step.

Boxes: We are talking about small, medium, and large containers. Large bins can carry lightweight items, medium boxes for heavier items such as dishes and cooking utensils, and small boxes can be used for storing spoons, forks, etc.

Packing paper: They are like a newspaper but without prints, and if you are smart, you would instead use newspapers instead of saving yourself the cost of packing paper. You can wrap fragile items to ensure they do not face any damage while moving.

Bubble wrap: As everyone knows, it is used to wrap breakable items but would it make a difference because it is a little more expensive than packing paper? You can get bubble wrap if you need it.

Also, opt for specialty dividers – they will help keep the glasses and cups sorted.

Packing tape: A must-have because you can only move some boxes by sealing them. Also, purchasing in bulk is what we suggest since you will be using them very often to pack your boxes.

Markers: This is to mark your boxes with labels!

Let’s pack!

Pots and pans: Use a medium or large-sized box for your pots and pans. Big pans won’t fit into the smaller ones, so we will put the smaller pans into the bigger ones and add support around the pans and pots by stuffing paper into the openings so it would restrict them from moving around during transportation. The glass lids of the pans should be appropriately wrapped to avoid any damage.

Glasses and cups: Use a specialty divider that will fit into standard boxes; even though they will be safe in the dividers, ensure to wrap them in the paper. Never stack anything directly in the box with no protection – they may look safe but are very fragile, so handle them carefully.

Plates and bowls: Stacking plates and bowls are the best way to pack your plates and bowls and add a piece of paper between them. To keep the stack together, use plastic wrap to wrap them.

Serving utensils: Wrap them and place them in the box depending upon their shape and size. For knives – roll each knife in a paper wrap, and you can also wrap it with a towel and then secure the whole wrapping with a rubber band. Knives are very sharp objects, and we should be extra careful with them. Always keep the knives on their sides instead of facing up.

Kitchen appliances: If you have the original boxes for your appliances, well and suitable, but if you don’t, then try to pack the devices in small packages and fill the container with paper wrap to avoid the appliances from moving inside the box. Secure the box properly. If you are bringing larger appliances, unplug them before proceeding. Also, appliances like refrigerators need extra care. Click here to learn how to prepare your fridge for a move.

Food items: The first step is to get rid of expired items, then start with more significant ones and add them to the boxes. The more minor things will go later. Make sure you keep everything necessary, and the packages you still need to open will go in the boxes the way they are if you do not use a few ingredients anymore, give them out for donation. Perishable goods should be kept in a cooler to ensure they are in good condition. Tossing everything out before leaving is suggested if you are moving long distances.

Here are a few essential tips for hassle-free packing!

  • Always ensure that fragile items are secured, kept, and carried carefully.
  • Label the boxes accordingly, like fragile items, cups, glasses, utensils, donations, food items, etc.
  • Always declutter before packing.
  • Keep all the packaging items ready.
  • Make a list of things, so you remember to move everything.
  • Make a list of steps to be followed while moving your kitchen.

How long does it take to move a house? https://getluckyremovalists.com/how-long-does-it-take-to-move-a-house/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/how-long-does-it-take-to-move-a-house/#respond Fri, 30 Dec 2022 12:42:14 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=841 Are you moving your home for the first time and wondering how long it would take to complete the move? Simply searching for removalists near me won’t suffice. Read on to learn how to make a successful move.

Moving base includes a lot of aspects, including processes from start to end. Moving from one home to another is a complex process and might require excessive time if not properly planned and executed. Not only that, but a few factors also contribute to delays in house moving. On average, it takes between 8-22 weeks to move from one home to another, while in some cases, it may be less or more depending on what is to be planned.

Here is an estimate of a moving timeline:

  • Approval for a mortgage – 5 days to 8 weeks
  • Selling your existing home – 4 to 10 weeks
  • Finding your new home – 1 to 10 weeks
  • Making an offer – 1 to 2 weeks
  • Conveyancing – 8 to 10 weeks
  • Surveying property – 1 to 3 weeks
  • Moving in – 1 day to 2 weeks

Let us walk you through each step of the process.

Approval for mortgage

You can get your mortgage before you go home hunting or after you have selected your home, following which you can seek to get the mortgage approved. It could take a few days to get your mortgage-backed, but if you face issues with your application form, it could take longer, say up to 8 weeks.

A pre-approved mortgage would mean you would search for a house that would fit your pre-approved budget. Find the right lender, and you can also opt for mortgage brokers to help you. To start, always be ready with your paperwork to let the process go smoothly.

  • Pay all your slips for the last three months
  • P60
  • Statements (saving account)
  • Bank statements for the last six months
  • Utility bills
  • Passport or D.L.
  • Tax returns

Sell your existing home

It will take 4-10 weeks and sometimes be a long-drawn process. Whether you are in a hurry or want to take your time, there are property listers and real estate agents who can help you smoothen the process. Let them know what you expect from the sale and enlist your expectations beforehand. Lastly, be patient – the average time to sell a property is about 44 days, give or take.

You are finding your new home

Isn’t it fun to go home-hunting?

The time it will take to find your new home depends on what you are looking for. Make a wish list for your dream home and search accordingly. What kind of area and type of properties are you interested in? What is the preferred style of the neighbourhood? Does it suit your current lifestyle? Keep these more aspects in mind, and voila!, you are very close to finding your ideal home!

Making an offer

The next step after choosing your home is to make an offer. Shortlisting the right property requires plenty of research, time, planning, and many other factors – all of which must be carefully assessed before taking the call. Once you have made up your mind, evaluate the value of the home basis a fair evaluation (and with the help of experts) and communicate the offer details with the agent/realtor.

Though you may be tempted to make a cheap offer, consider all the factors.

Conveyancing

It may seem complicated, but conveyancing is simply the legal transfer of property between the buyer and seller once an offer has been accepted. Hire a professional conveyancer to help you after your request has gone through. Iron out all details before signing necessary documents and follow all legalities to ensure a smooth transaction.

Property survey

An essential part of buying a home. A property survey shows the condition of your new property. It takes an in-depth look at the state of the house. It also indicates if any major repairs and maintenance are needed.

Always survey the property in question before a buyer pays. A survey can take about 24 hours to be completed or more, depending on the condition it is in. It’s always suggested that the survey booking is made as early as possible, so you receive a fair assessment of your home.

Moving in

Moving in is very personal and subjective. It depends on you how you choose to move. And how many days are you considering for it? The packing of your home depends on the number of belongings, the distance to be travelled, the duration you decide to move, and several other factors. For example, if you plan to shift to Sydney, ensure you research removalists in Sydney before planning your move.

We suggest hiring a removal company, and it will be easier for you to move your home if you hire movers and packers since they are experienced and know how to handle heavy and valuable items.

If you are looking to hire a moving truck removalist company, contact Get lucky removalists – one of the top moving companies in Australia!

Easy Tips and Tricks for a Smooth Move https://getluckyremovalists.com/easy-tips-and-tricks-for-a-smooth-move/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/easy-tips-and-tricks-for-a-smooth-move/#respond Fri, 23 Dec 2022 08:41:05 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=833 Here are a few moving hacks to avoid common mistakes and make your planned move efficient and hassle-free!

#Tip 1 – Start packing bit by bit

Wondering what to pack first when moving? When packing, remember that choosing a room or area of your home that is least used will be easier. Start with the least used room and eventually work towards the more frequently used rooms. It could be your store room, garage or basement. We suggest this because the least used rooms are the ones that will contain fewer things and furniture pieces; it will also keep you motivated to work if you clear out an entire area in one go.

#Tip 2 – Cut back on clutter

Do not rush or panic; stay calm; moving out of a messy home could be challenging but not impossible. Start by organising your home many days before the moving date to organise and sort things, and categorise items into three categories: Keep, throw and donate. Work your way through every room and avoid random packing; instead, go room by room.

#Tip 3 – Label your things and maintain a “moving folder”

Keep everything labelled to avoid confusion; for example, mark all the boxes according to the items you store and the rooms they are supposed to be in. Doing this will help you unbox quickly when you reach your new home.

As for the moving folder, maintain one with all details about rentals, removalist services, phone numbers of essential persons, agreements, payment receipts, etc.

#Tip 4 – Get a calendar

The first step should always be organising and sorting to make the moving process smoother. Make a moving calendar to stay up to date. Mark what you have planned for the first week, second week, third week and the last few days before packing. Practising this will help you schedule your move in an organised and hassle-accessible manner.

#Tip 5 – Get the correct packing box

Always use the correct type of durable boxes that can carry your stuff easier. Always label your boxes according to the rooms, and never mix items from two rooms. Keep the lighter items at the top of the box and heavier items at the bottom. Protect fragile items like ceramics, plates etc. There are a few things you shouldn’t pack in a box: household cleaning items, fertilisers or pesticides, perishable items, cash, wills and jewellery. Last but not least, ensure that the boxes are packed properly. Hope this resolves your “how to pack moving boxes” query.

#Tip 6 – Mix your items

Avoid packing all heavy and bulky items or all delicate items together—mix things from different rooms to keep them safe and utilise your box space better. For example, a delicate vase or a lamp can be covered in towels and soft cloths to keep them safe. If you’re unsure how to pack them – use bubble wrap and tape to keep them secure and store them as the last boxes to be carried in your loading truck. This is also a great way to repurpose household items and the best way to pack a house.

#Tip 7 – Choose a truck with a loading ramp

Heavy furniture can feel heavier if they need to be carried by hand for a longer time and distance. Though trucks with loading ramps may be a bit higher on the budget, they will save you the hassle and sore muscles after lifting heavy items and furniture.

#Tip 8 – Book early in the day

If you’re looking to hire rental services and removalists, ensure you do so in advance. Professionals like painters, cleaners, etc., must be informed if you wish to employ them. Estimate how much it would cost to hire them (depending on the size of your home and your possessions) and inform them if you wish to avail of their services.

That’s about it! Following these apartment moving tips will make your move a lot smoother than you anticipate. For more information, get in touch with us – at Get Lucky Removalists – www.getluckyremovalists.com.

FAQs for Homeowners https://getluckyremovalists.com/faqs-for-homeowners/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/faqs-for-homeowners/#respond Wed, 14 Dec 2022 14:02:26 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=796 What things do professional packers and movers use?

Bubble wraps, waterproof lamination, corrugated sheets, newspapers, carton boxes, thermocol, wraps, foam sheets, and tapes are used. The material to pack is used according to the items being packed. For example, furniture, fragile items, and utensils are packed in different types of ways with different materials that avoid breakage.

How to choose a moving date?

Flexibility helps when it comes to choosing a moving date. At times, choosing a date with ample planning time may be cheaper and also convenient for movers and packers. Planning in advance will give you time to plan your move and avoid last minute trouble. Also, a smart thing to do is to plan on weekdays rather than weekends.

How can I help the removalists?

You can begin with informing the removalists about how to plan to move. Share your preferred itinerary with them and familiarise them with the type of belongings you wish to carry.

On the day of the move, guide them about where to park, keep a clear entrance and keep your precious belongings with you to avoid loss or breakage. Also if you’re travelling with children and pets, plan in advance and inform all parties involved.

Who are the best movers and packers?

If they use good packaging material, they are experienced and knowledgeable, trained professionals, have a well-established network, efficient door-to-door transportation services, and are punctual and affordable. Though it may not be possible to know a service provider from the word go, always do a thorough background check to establish if the removalists are equipped to fulfil your needs.

How much will it cost me?

The cost will differ depending on your location and the place you wish to move to, whether it is local or interstate. Though the distance may not impact the cost of local moving, it is generally determined by the number of goods and the amount of labour required. It entirely depends on your situation and how big the move is.

What are the cheapest days to move?

The weekdays are way cheaper than the weekends because the cost decreases due to the availability of the movers on weekdays; weekends are busy for the movers hence the cost increases. Also, summers are more expensive than any other season, due to the holidays. So, it is recommended that you move during off-season to avoid surge charges or extra costs.

How far in advance should you schedule movers?

Two months in advance is ideal, however your booking will depend largely on a number of factors like removalist availability, your location, your criteria of moving (home or office) and the weather that impacts your travel. Since many movers may be booked in advance, try booking 2-3 prior to avoid cancellations or last-minute hassle. It will also be easier for you if you make a moving calendar.

How do I prepare my home for the movers?

Reduce the things you do not want, segregate them into three parts, and donate, reuse, and sort accordingly. Clean before the packers arrive. Remove any item which won’t be transportable or you wish to leave behind. Keep a different section or room for the items you will be handling yourself.

Moving to Adelaide? Things you should know https://getluckyremovalists.com/moving-to-adelaide-things-you-should-know/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/moving-to-adelaide-things-you-should-know/#respond Fri, 09 Dec 2022 08:24:56 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=777 Choosing where to live in Australia can be quite confusing, with so many beautiful cities to choose from, but when it comes to the budget and lifestyle you want, no one can go wrong with choosing Adelaide. Here are a few reasons why this mesmerising place should be on the top of your ‘moving to’ list.

Affordable cost of living:

Well, the good news for all the movers is that Adelaide is one of the most affordable cities in Australia. When we look at the living cost, it’s around 45% lower than Sydney but with all amenities that will suit your lifestyle. It is also 14% more affordable to live in than other cities in Australia, which will benefit you when it comes to spending on food, entertainment, and travel. Compared to Sydney or any other city in Australia, getting a two-bedroom apartment in Adelaide will cost you the same amount as a small apartment in Sydney.

Good weather:

Have you ever experienced the weather in Sydney or Melbourne? It’s either too humid or too cloudy, but then there is Adelaide, with just the perfect pleasant weather. You don’t have to stress about the weather when going out for any outdoor activities. South Australia offers hot summers and snowless winters, but when you think about perfect weather, think Adelaide – after all, imagine yourself relaxing on the beach, soaking up the soft sunshine is much easier here.

Transportation:

The metro system here will save you some time with a well-connected system of trains, trams, and buses. You can buy a MetroCard for $105 for unlimited rides and explore Adelaide at very affordable rates. Also, Adelaide provides free bikes and is bicycle friendly, and you can go around the CBD (central business district) using a bike. While cycling will be both healthy for your body and the environment, it will allow you to explore the city on two wheels.

Food culture, nightlife, and entertainment:

Let’s talk about this city’s food… shall we? You will get a blend of cultures and creativity, so why should the cuisine be far behind? With various options to fill your belly and feed your soul, you can explore all cuisines, from world-fancy restaurants to rooftop bars.

Adelaide’s nightlife is happening too. Various clubs, bars, and entertainment venues will keep you active, so if you are a night owl, you will always have something to plan with friends. The best part about Adelaide is that it has something in store for everyone.

Many art and cultural institutions are located in Adelaide, like the botanical gardens, museums, art galleries, and the zoo. It is a city full of people from across the globe, making it the fifth most populous city in Australia – but this also means that there is always something or the other going on all around the year. Festivals like Adelaide Festival, WOMADelaide, and FEAST Festival will urge you to keep an eye out for some fun outdoor activities all year round, more so if you love the occasional festive vibes.

Opportunity:

When it comes to opportunities, no matter what you are interested in, there are several educational & job opportunities for all those who visit or live in Australia. The city provides the best educational opportunities and facilities if you are a student, from public and private schools to universities with trained faculties. You can also have plenty of options when discussing internships or part-time job opportunities.

Adelaide’s thriving industries include Food, Wine & Agribusiness, Health, Information Technology, Defence, Arts, and more. If you are considering moving to Adelaide, you have ample opportunities.

Amazing views:

The most magical thing about Australia is its beaches, long and long stretches of white sands, breathtaking views, and uncrowded beaches. Yes, you heard it right. Uncrowded beaches are the best part of Adelaide. Though the city offers the benefits of a place that thrives, it can also be a refreshingly calm and relaxing place. So, once you are done with your work or studies, you can step back from the hustle and bustle of the city and go to the beautiful beaches Adelaide has to offer.

This city provides a great lifestyle and balance with the perfect blend of everything: wildlife, nature, entertainment, the hustle and bustle, beaches, calmness, and opportunity to grow. The best part is it is affordable.

Remove all the items stored inside your fridge, whether food or groceries. Make sure that the fridge is empty. Store the contents from the refrigerator in a cooler if you plan to take all your food items to your new home; if not, you can go ahead and consume your groceries (perishables) before you travel. It would help if you considered removing any glass items like drawers, trays, or shelves to avoid any breakage.

You can wipe the fridge with baking soda and defrost the freezer if you want to keep your fridge from leaking during transport. After you have emptied the fridge and defrosted it, you can go ahead and switch off the refrigerator from the main switch. Make sure to switch it off hours before the move. Although, consider keeping the fridge door open to prevent any odour. Roll the cord and clip it in the back of the fridge.

The move

A fridge is a heavy appliance, so you should consider whether to move it yourself or hire a professional mover. If you are required to change floors during your move, ensure you hire a professional mover.

Hopefully your fridge can easily pass through your door frames towards your main door although it is best to check the size of the appliance along with the size of your rooms & doors. This is applicable to your new house as well. Since it is not possible to dismantle a fridge, make sure you measure your hallways, doors, as well as your fridge beforehand.

While moving, it’d be best if your fridge has movable feet, if not, ensure you use furniture sliders or a cloth to avoid scratching the floor or worse damaging it.The next step is to seal the door shut using tape. Usually, fridges come with lockable doors so this shouldnt be a problem. Also, since the fridge will be transported and tiny shocks to the appliance could affect it, it is recommended to wrap the fridge with bubble wrap or with a blanket or anything that could resist the shocks while moving.

It is recommended that you should transport a refrigerator in a straight standing-up position. Tie the fridge to the vehicle you will be transporting the fridge in and keep it straight till you arrive at your destination.

After the move

After the transfer, ensure that the fridge is upright, unwrap it, and let it sit for at least 2 hours before you use it. Waiting to start the refrigerator so the compressed oil can settle down is good advice. Depending on the type & volume of the fridge, it might take upto 12 hours to cool so it is advisable to not hurry or change the settings for it to cool faster. Allow enough time so you can avoid any damage that might occur. If possible, have it checked by an electrician before you start it, just to be safe.

How to organise a home right after moving https://getluckyremovalists.com/how-to-organise-a-home-right-after-moving/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/how-to-organise-a-home-right-after-moving/#respond Sat, 05 Nov 2022 05:13:07 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=707 So are you moving into your new home and you do not know where to start and how to start organising your home? Here is a guide for you, on how to organise your home right after moving in.

Organising starts before the move!

This is part of the process, organising starts before the moving. Declutter before packing and leave the unnecessary items which are not going to serve you in your new home. Decluttering will help you to reduce the amount of time you put into setting up your new home. Pack according to the rooms, make boxes, and use labels, pack accordingly. It will be easier if you have box names assigned to particular rooms or even better if you specify it even more, for instance, a box full of the items which will go on the bedside table and bedroom study table and then label it. It would make it so much easier to arrange and put the items in the right room and right place.

Deep cleaning

If you want your place to look organised and clean make sure that your place is crystal clear and sparkling clean. Right after moving remember that it is easier to clean an empty space than a space which has furniture and other items on the floor. Clean before opening any of the boxes. Clean the floors, fans, ceilings, windows, doors, anything that can be cleaned. Maybe even use the spray which will keep away the cockroaches and other pests out of your way. Give yourself all the time to deep clean each and every room.

Put boxes in the right room

Now you can go ahead and open your first box but that first box is going to be your essentials box, which would contain everything you require right away like the toiletries and other essentials. Now put all the labelled boxes in the rooms assigned to them.

Furniture and rugs before unpacking

Next step, Lay out the rugs, carpets and anything which will go on the floor. Lay out the furniture, like in the bedroom, and living room. Laying out the furniture is important, it will help us understand where the other items will go. Lay out the big furniture then the small furniture followed by potted plants.

Bedrooms

Since we are done with laying out the carpets and furniture. Now you can open up the boxes meant for the bedroom. We are doing the bedrooms first to make sure that you and your family can have a good night’s sleep from the first night you move into your new home so even if you can’t get done with organising your home in a day, you can still have a place to rest and sleep. If you have a kid’s bedroom, then first open up the boxes meant for the kid’s bedroom. Fill out all the cupboard spaces, organise the things meant for the closet space and when you need additional space under the bed storage is always an option.

Bathrooms

Now that you are done with the bedrooms, you can start with the bathrooms. If you are sharing a bathroom with your kids then make sure that every person in the family gets an equal amount of space for their belongings. Install hooks if required for hanging towels and bathrobes. Set up your bathroom in a way that doesn’t seem messy but at the same time, everything should fit and look organised. Make different sections for things which are used by all and things which are used rarely.

Kitchen

Now moving on to the kitchen, after setting up your bedrooms and bathrooms now is the time to organise your kitchen. Let’s divide the things into consumables, non-consumables, cleaning supplies, prep supplies and cooking supplies.

Consumables: This area is where you’ll store your food. The fridge, food cabinets and pantry is where you are going to store your food. Snacks, quick bites, food which can easily be eaten on the go.

Non-consumables: Dishware, glasses, silverware and cookware should be stored for easy access and could include cabinets, and drawers. Make separate sections for the utensils which are used often, not used often and used on a daily basis.

Cleaning area: This area includes the sink, dishwasher and storage for cleaning supplies, dish detergent, scrub pads and dishcloths. Under the sink storage is a good place to store cleaning supplies. Make sure that the cleaning supplies are limited and not kept in a manner which makes the kitchen look unattractive.

Prep area: Whether it’s a counter area or kitchen island, determine where you’ll be doing most of your prep for meals so that you can store the things you’ll need close by. Keep the things which are necessary for preparing your meal near the prep area. Positioning makes a difference in everyday life.

Cooking area: This area includes your stovetop, range, oven and microwave. You’ll want pots and pans stored close by for easy access. You’ll also need to decide the best place to store mixers, food processors and other countertop appliances out of the way. Again positioning is very important.

If you have younger children, be sure to install cabinet locks and for older kids, designate an area or cabinet where they can grab what they want.

The living area

Last but not least, make sure that a living area is a place where each one of the family members enjoys the time they spend there. Keep the living space clutter free but at the same time make it look cosy and comfortable. Keep in mind the needs of the family members for instance, keep the books for children in a reachable proximity so the children can easily reach them. Keep the living area easily maintainable and clean. Use furniture with storage units installed in them so you can get extra storage.

And taa-daa you have it! Your perfectly organised home.

Moving with Kids? 5 Smart tips for Relocation https://getluckyremovalists.com/moving-with-kids-5-smart-tips-for-relocation/ https://getluckyremovalists.com/moving-with-kids-5-smart-tips-for-relocation/#respond Thu, 27 Oct 2022 13:38:28 +0000 https://getluckyremovalists.com/?p=683 Moving to a new country, city or even a new place can be daunting, especially if you have a young child. Thankfully, Australia can be very welcoming, thanks to its culture & opportunities for education & growth.

Thinking about relocating, but don’t know how to convince your kids to move? Follow these simple tips to overcome challenges and make it seem like an adventure!

1. Maintain Routine as much as you can –

Sometimes moving to a new place can be a disruptive event in our lives. To relocate, we tend to plan in advance, organise, follow our to-do list and prepare ourselves for moving. Though this may sound easy if you’re an adult, it can be quite distressing for your child. Children don’t always understand the nitty-gritty of moving and may see this as an incredible change in their lives and may not always cosy up to the idea at first. So, as a parent, you can always maintain a steady routine in order to keep the chaos under control. Whether it is their play or study time, going out with friends, or even their favourite toys, make sure they are given the same routine till the day you move. But most importantly, don’t forget to mention to them the new place you’re moving to and the reason why. Reassure them that they will have plenty to play with – new school, new places to explore and of course new friends!

2. Communicate with your Kids –

Moving is difficult, but moving with your kids – thinking about relocating permanently can be overwhelming for any parent. Though you can take your time to calm yourself and think about the moving process, while you’re busy with calling people & getting the help, remember to communicate with your kids as to why you’re shifting. Whatever their age, as a parent you’re expected to take the first step and introduce them to the idea of moving away. Don’t be blunt but don’t be shy either. They must know some day, so, the sooner, the better! Who knows, your kids might see this as an adventure and even help you pack!

3. Give Your Kids Something to Look Forward To –

Unlike you – an adult who can easily recuperate with lifestyle changes, your child sees the world around them as their own. Just the thought of them giving up their school, favourite playground and even their closest friends can make them hurt, so you shouldn’t blame them for being resistant.

Instead try to look at things from their perspective and give me more to look forward to each day. Start with describing the new house with features the kids might love – a vibrant neighbourhood, new friends, a new toy store, etc. This will surely make them worry less about their current home and they may even ask you to move to the new home sooner.

4. Ask Your Kids for Help –

A busy kid is a happy kid! Involve your kids in small daily chores or even something as exciting as packing a box with their favourite toys. Not only will this distract them for the sadness of leaving, but will also cheer them up. Want help with small chores your kid is better at doing? Don’t think, just give them a task at hand and watch them become playfully busy. Remember to keep the conversation going, and of course- to take a well deserved break!

5. Get the right service provider –

What better than a removalist service who is efficient? The one who will be friendly with your kids! Don’t worry; no preparation is needed for this one. When you book your removalist, make sure you mention that you’re relocating with your kids and we’re sure they’ll be more than happy to have some tiny hands to help.

During the actual relocation, ensure that your kids are safe and in your sight at all times. Do not rely on a removalist to worry for your kids, as it may not always be part of their job. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the moving process, a babysitter will come in very handy. Introduce them to your children beforehand to ensure they’re in safe hands and to make the moving process smoother.

Well, these were the easiest of tips you as a parent can follow. Have a few more in mind? Drop us a comment and visit our website to know more about the services we provide!
